Solstice

Solstice connects households to community solar: a shared array somewhere nearby that a person can subscribe to, no roof required, no money down, with a discount on the electric bill. Around 80% of American households can't put solar on a roof, because they rent, live in a condo, have credit that won't clear a financing check, or own a roof that faces the wrong way or sits under a tree.

So the cheapest electricity ever generated is available mostly to people who own a suitable house. Community solar was designed to fix that and mostly stalled, because developers know how to build and finance arrays and do not know how to enroll a neighborhood, which is community organizing work, done door to door, at a price per customer that has to stay small. Solar cannot be a mainstream part of the grid while four fifths of the country is locked out of it.
