Carbix

Carbix captures CO2 where it is emitted, at a cement kiln or a gas plant, and converts it on site into carbonate materials that go back into cement, concrete, and aggregate. The carbon ends up locked in the product as a mineral, which is a durable form of storage: it is not going anywhere, because it has become the building.

Cement is one of the hardest industries to decarbonize, and the capture technologies aimed at it tend to be large, complex, and awkward to retrofit into a plant that already exists. Carbix's reactor runs at the source and turns the captured carbon into something the plant already sells, which makes the carbon an input rather than a cost. Its cements and aggregates have been tested to ASTM standards by third-party labs, because a building material that can't be specified is not a building material.
