ConnectDER

ConnectDER makes a meter collar: an adapter that slots in behind a home's electric meter and turns the meter socket into a standard connection point for solar, batteries, and EV chargers. Wiring a solar installation into a house is bespoke work on every job, priced accordingly, and it is a meaningful share of what a homeowner pays for a system that costs the same everywhere else.

Standardizing that connection takes thousands of dollars and hours of labor out of each install, and the version with metering and controls gives the utility visibility and control over what's on the other side, which is what utilities need before they will welcome much more rooftop solar onto their circuits. Panels have collapsed in price for two decades while the cost of attaching them to a house has not. Soft costs are where residential solar is actually expensive.
