Oscilla Power

Oscilla Power builds wave energy converters. Its Triton captures energy across six degrees of motion, which lifts the capacity factor that has undermined every previous attempt, and drops into a survival mode in extreme seas rather than being over-engineered to withstand them, which is what made earlier machines too expensive to justify.

The reason to care is seasonal. Solar and wind on the West Coast fall off precisely in winter, when demand climbs, and no amount of storage economically bridges a months-long shortfall. Waves peak in winter. They are a large, complementary, winter-heavy resource sitting off a coastline that needs exactly that shape of generation, and they have stayed unused because the machines couldn't survive the ocean affordably. A 100% renewable grid probably needs a third resource. This is the one the geography is offering.
