Signol

Signol gives airline pilots personalized feedback on their own fuel use, and it changes what they do. Fuel is 30 to 40% of an airline's operating cost, and a meaningful slice of it is burned on decisions individual captains make: taxiing on all engines, carrying more fuel than the flight needs, small choices repeated across thousands of flights.

The existing software presents crews with dashboards of aggregate data, which reliably changes nothing, because information is not motivation. Signol's approach comes out of behavioral economics and was tested in a randomized controlled trial with an airline, which is a level of evidence almost nothing in corporate efficiency software can claim. Aviation is among the hardest sectors to decarbonize and the fleet flying today will be flying for decades. Burning less in the aircraft that exist is not a substitute for better aircraft. It is what's available now.
